Knife Disarm on Ground
From the Battlefield Kali Knife distance learning program, Burton “Lucky Dog” Richardson shows a worst case scenario- on your back, empty handed, against a knife. This is a control that works well if you cannot get to a 2 on 1 grip. Notice that the knife may be cutting the leg, but not severely. It is all about minimizing the damage in this terrible situation. This grip comes up often when we spar this position. (In Battlefield Kali we spar ALL positions!) Burton’s Website: www.battlefieldkali.com
Burton is using our Basic Gatorback with a Rubber Grip for this drill.
Rick Faye – Minnesota Kali Group – Knife Tapping
Rick Faye of the Minnesota Kali Group demonstrating FMA knife tapping.
Convicted of Stabbing
(Warning) Graphic clip of an aggressive attack with a blunt object and a blade in a busy restaurant. Comment by Burton Richardson: These are the types of criminal attackers we train to defeat. The only way to be able to deal with that sort of aggression is to spar against skillful, aggressive opponents. If your training doesn’t look at all like this, then you aren’t preparing well. Empty Hand vs. Shocknife
Cool clip by Burton Richardson showing the use of the Shock Knife. According to Burton “The number one thing is that you have to control the knife arm”.
Greg Nelson & David Leitch Krabi Krabong Demo
Greg and Dave using Krabi Krabong swords during an awesome demo from 1995. Note, these are not the Krabi trainers that we manufacture here. These are the steel swords.

Shocknife – Burton Richardson Demo
This is a nice demo by Burton Richardson showing how to spar realistically. He shows how we can develop bad habits by only using sparring blades that don’t have real consequences when you get cut. He uses the Shocknife to make his point in this video and it is very effective. I recommend them if it is in your budget. www.shocknife.com
Remember, even if you are using our aluminum, plastic, or foam trainers, keep your head in the game and train realistically. Don’t develop bad habits when training with an edged weapon.
